Fall 2014 Health & Beauty Bootcamp - Winetasting #1 - POMEGRANATE WINE

Most of us know that red wine in moderation has amazing health benefits. Sometimes, it's easier to go and get the cheapest wine out there and that's not always good. During your bootcamp, be sure to add red wine to your diet...There are also wines not made of grapes that are also healthy and wonderful. Always be on the lookout for a bargain. We picked up this one for under $10. Our objective for the Fall 2014 Bootcamp is to explore wines from the Middle East, southern Europe and Africa.

Here's the scoop:

Tree of Life Pomegranate Wine hails from Armenia, one of the most ancient (over 5,000 years old!)  winemaking regions on the planet.  Its quality and traditions are well known throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.  Armenia’s climate is perfect for growing some of the best pomegranate fruit.  In fact, it is one of just two or three worldwide where pomegranate ripens to the degree necessary to allow fermentation.Tree of Life pomegranate Wine comes in two variations: Semi-Sweet or Semi-Dry.  Both are fermented from 100% pure squeezed pomegranate juice and possess the perfect pomegranate taste and complexity of peppery tartness and fruitiness, but there are some distinct differences:

Pomegranate is a natural balancer of the body’s hormonal and immune system. It contains polyphenols, which have anti-viral, anti-tumor and potent antioxidant properties. pomegranate is considered the No. 1 antioxidant in the modern diet. With protection against cancers and cardiovascular diseases, antioxidants are said to be the main contributing source to longevity of human life. (Clinica Chimica Acta 348: 63-68, 2004; Journal of Nutrition 136(10):2481-5, 2006).
POMEGRANATE WINE HAS TWO TO THREE TIMES MORE ANTIOXIDANTS THAN RED WINE. (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2000, 48, 4581-4589)
